40 YEARS LATER

Today is the fortieth anniversary of Niel Armstrong's walk on the moon. Since then technology has evolved exponentially, though the space program is a shadow of its former self in importance to the lawmakers of this country and, sadly to say, more so to their constituents.

It is believed that the next goal of the space program is to determine if there is evidence of ice on the poles of the moon and/or Mars. I guess we need to determine this because the polar ice caps on this planet are melting at "alarming" rates (according to the Algore acolytes), killing the Polar Bears and raising all of our oceans thereby wreaking their salinity and altering their environments, blah, blah, blah. I wonder if the next space goal will be funded in the same manner as Cap & Tax and Obamacare, by taxing the rich - and their cigarettes.

The space program of the 1960's and 1970's was the last true national, government-sponsored program the majority of Americans supported. What will be the next one? Certainly NOT the ones being championed by our current politicians!

I actually like my personal recap of the day 40 years ago better than yours, but to each his own. I changed the shuttle to "something" in my post.
